Welcome to Dalarna \u2014 the heart of Swedish tradition. Upon arrival at Borl\u00e4nge Airport (BLE), you\u2019ll pick up your rental car and begin a scenic drive through forests and lake landscapes to T\u00e4llberg, one of Sweden\u2019s most picturesque villages perched high above Lake Siljan. Make a stop here and explore the charming village of T\u00e4llberg.\u00a0<\/p>

Continue to drive to Mora and check into your charming boutique hotel, where the flower gardens, and panoramic views immediately set the tone for your Swedish adventure.<\/p>

In the afternoon, enjoy a gentle walk along Siljan\u2019s shoreline, while the water glimmers like glass against a backdrop of rolling hills and rustic cottages. Stop for a traditional fika (coffee and pastry\/kanelbulle) at a cozy local caf\u00e9 before returning to the hotel to relax.<\/p>

Later in the day, you\u2019ll be personally welcomed by our local host team, who will introduce you to your family\u2019s Swedish roots. Through stories, maps, and archival details, you\u2019ll gain a deeper understanding of your ancestors\u2019 lives \u2014 where your family lived, what they worked with, and how their traditions are still part of Dalarna today.<\/p>

After a hearty Swedish breakfast, you\u2019ll take a short drive to Nusn\u00e4s, the birthplace of the world-famous Dala horse. Here, you\u2019ll visit one of the original family-owned workshops \u2014 Grannas Anders or Nils Olsson \u2014 where artisans have been hand-carving and painting these colorful wooden horses for generations. You\u2019ll see every step of the process and even have the chance to paint your own Dala horse, a keepsake that connects you to centuries of Swedish craftsmanship.<\/p>

Drive back to Mora, and enjoy lunch at a lakeside caf\u00e9 before visiting the Zorn Gammelg\u00e5rden – a house full of historic advenures. Nearby, is the home of the famous painter Anders Zorn, one of Sweden\u2019s most celebrated artists. His artwork and beautifully preserved home provide a fascinating glimpse into life in Sweden at the turn of the century.<\/p>

In the afternoon, go for a biking ride to Vasaloppet’s tracks. You can bike for some km and then turn back to your hotel again. It is a nice tour in the forest.<\/p>

As evening falls, enjoy dinner in Mora and have a relaxed evening with stunning sunset views over Lake Siljan.<\/p>

Day 3 – Life by the Lake: Nature, Simplicity & Local Family Traditions<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This day invites you to connect with nature in the Swedish way.<\/p>

After breakfast, you check out and you\u2019ll head to the nearby village R\u00e4ttvik and the lakeshore to pick up kayaks or stand-up paddleboards for a peaceful morning on Lake Siljan. The calm waters and gentle rhythm of paddling create a sense of freedom and presence that is deeply rooted in Swedish outdoor life.<\/p>

For lunch, you hike to a f\u00e4bod, a traditional summer farm where locals once lived and worked during the warmer months. Here, you can meet friendly animals, taste fresh butter and cheese, and hear stories about rural traditions that have shaped life in Dalarna for centuries.<\/p>

In the afternoon, go hiking in Styggforsen national reserv and have some waffles made over open fire.<\/p>

Continue to R\u00e4ttvik and check in your pittoresque hotel.\u00a0 Explore small artisan shops, then enjoy a dinner of local specialties such as smoked fish or kroppkakor (potato dumplings with pork and lingonberries).<\/p>

In the evening you have an optional visit not included to Visit Dalhalla, one of Europe\u2019s most spectacular open-air concert venues, set in a former limestone quarry outside R\u00e4ttvik. The turquoise waters and towering rock walls create an unforgettable natural amphitheater. If you would like to attend a concert under the stars, there are some great artists in the summer. The acoustics and atmosphere are unlike anywhere else on earth. Examples of concerts in summer 2026: Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, A night in Hollywood and Takita.<\/p>

In the afternoon, we recommend you to visit Falu Gruva, a world heritage worth visiting.<\/p>

Return to your hotel to unwind and watch the long northern twilight melt into night, in the same way as your family looked over the sky.<\/p>

Day 4 – Music, Drama & the Spirit of Dalarna<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Today you check out from your hotel in R\u00e4ttvik and you have two options to choose between:<\/p>

Option A – Dog sleedging\u00a0
<\/i><\/b>Continue the drive towards S\u00e5gmyra. Here you will go dog sleedging for about 2,5 hours.\u00a0
Enjoy a nice lunch on your way to Falun. Check in at your hotel and start walking to the Falu Mine and Museum for a guided visit. While in Falun, go visit Dalarnas Museum.<\/p>

In the evening have a nice dinner and enjoy the nice town by the lake Runn.<\/p>

Option B \u2014 Countryside Discovery:<\/em><\/strong>
If you prefer a quieter day, explore the Siljan Ring, a scenic drive through small villages, heritage farms, and local art studios. Stop for homemade lunch in a countryside caf\u00e9, visit charming wooden churches, and take a gentle nature walk along forest trails filled with wildflowers and birdsong.<\/p>

End your day with a celebratory farewell dinner overlooking the lake \u2014 perhaps a toast with local cloudberry liqueur as you reflect on your family\u2019s journey and the beauty of Sweden\u2019s heartland.<\/p>

Your final morning in Dalarna begins with baked bread, local berries, and strong Swedish coffee.<\/p>

Enjoy one last walk along the water or visit a nearby handicraft shop for authentic souvenirs, maybe Dala horses, woven textiles, or hand-forged jewelry.<\/p>

An optional visit to the painter Carl Larsson’s home in Sundborn might be done in the morning.<\/p>

Then, it\u2019s time to drive back to Borl\u00e4nge Airport. On your way back, you are going to do a final stop at \u00d6rn\u00e4s Stugan Museum. It is here the king Gustav Vasa escaped through the toilet. You can also have a final fika in the caf\u00e9.<\/p>
