Discover your "Skåne Roots"

Discover Your Roots in the Heart of Skåne and step into the land of your ancestors and experience southern Sweden at its most authentic. This five-day journey blends family heritage with outdoor adventure, charming villages and genuine encounters with local life. Wander along ancient Viking shores, hike in sunlit national parks, and taste the crisp sweetness of Österlen’s famous apple orchards. Stay in cozy farmhouses where every breakfast tells a story, and every evening feels like coming home. From the medieval streets of Lund to the quiet beauty of the Skåne coast — this is more than a trip. It’s a homecoming.

Day 1 – Arrival in Skåne – welcome home

After landing in Copenhagen, you pick up your rental car and cross the iconic Øresund Bridge — the great link between Denmark and Sweden. As you drive east through the rolling countryside, the landscape begins to open up — fields of golden rapeseed, half-timbered farmhouses, and winding country roads lined with old stone fences.

By early afternoon you arrive in Ystad, or perhaps a cozy farm B&B in the heart of Österlen — the region locals call “Sweden’s Provence.” Your hosts greet you perhaps with coffee and homemade cake, and soon you’re sitting in the garden, listening to the birds and the soft sea breeze.

In the evening, your family lecture and gathering takes place — an emotional and personal highlight. Surrounded by the same landscape your ancestors once left behind, you share stories, photos and family memories, and feel that subtle sense of belonging — as if the circle is finally complete.

Day 2 – The Ancient Coastline, Ale Stenar & Stenshuvud National Park

This morning, after a generous Swedish breakfast with fresh bread, berries and cheeses, you set out along the south coast. Your destination is Ales Stenar, the mysterious “Stone Ship” that stands proudly on a high cliff above the sea near Kåseberga. These 59 massive stones have guarded the coast for more than a thousand years — a monument to Viking seafarers and the early settlers of Skåne.
You wander along the cliffs, the salty wind in your hair, and gaze across the endless horizon of the Baltic. A small harbour café serves smoked fish and fresh shrimp sandwiches for lunch — simple, honest, local.

In the afternoon, you continue to Stenshuvud National Park, where forested hills meet long sandy beaches. Choose one of the scenic walking trails to the hilltop viewpoint or enjoy a peaceful stroll through beech woods filled with birdsong. You can run free on the beach, splash in the waves and collect shells.

Return in the evening to your guesthouse, where you can relax with a glass of local cider on the terrace and watch the sun dip below the apple trees.

Day 3 – Apples, Orchards & Active Adventure

Today you’ll discover the heart of Österlen’s rural life. A short drive north takes you to Kiviks Musteri, Skåne’s legendary apple orchard and cider house. The family-run estate has been pressing apples for more than a century, and during a guided tour you’ll learn about the art of cider-making and walk through fragrant rows of blossoms (or ripe fruit, depending on the season). The tasting of apple juice, cider and marmalade is pure joy for all ages.

After lunch at the orchard café, your afternoon is reserved for adventure. You might choose a guided sea-kayak tour along the calm coast, gliding past white beaches and fishing villages, or rent bikes to explore the countryside at your own pace. Another possibility is to hike int the hills of Brösarp, a 19 km track and where you also will pass Haväng Museum. Quiet backroads lead through meadows and fields, past stone walls and red cottages — postcard-perfect scenes of rural Sweden.

Back at your B&B, enjoy a slow evening — perhaps dinner at a nearby farm restaurant where everything on your plate was grown or raised within a few miles.

Day 4 – Culture & Connection: Day trip to Lund and/or Malmö

Today offers a change of rhythm and a glimpse into Swedish everyday life. Drive toward Lund, one of Sweden’s oldest towns and home to the country’s oldest university. Stroll through cobbled streets lined with pastel houses and ivy-covered walls, and step inside Lund Cathedral, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture dating back to the 12th century. The sound of the great astronomical clock fills the church at noon — a magical experience for all ages.

For lunch, pick a lively café where students and professors mingle — the perfect place to chat with locals about Swedish life today. Take a short detour and visit Jakriborg – an artificial old village close to Lund.

If time allows, continue to Malmö, Skåne’s largest city, where modern architecture meets centuries-old charm. Walk along the waterfront near the Turning Torso tower, browse the markets, or relax in one of the city’s many parks, Malmö Museum, Malmöhus Slott etcetera, before heading back to the tranquility of the countryside.

Your final evening in Österlen calls for something special — we prepare a farewell dinner at a cozy seaside inn, candlelight reflecting off the water and laughter echoing through the old timbered walls.

Day 5- Farewell to Skåne & Hello to Copenhagen

After breakfast, it’s time to say farewell to Skåne and head back to Copenhagen. Today before your flight, you have a couple of hours in the capital of Denmark.

Hope you enjoyed it!
